The Trip – Little Critter Reading Adventure

What fun Apps!   The Trip Little Critter Reading Adventure is based on Mercer Mayer’s classic book of the same title and features his incredible original artwork.  It is a storybook app with two options. One is to go on a Reading Adventure, two is to just read the story yourself, which is a great option for this app as the Reading Adventure can take a long time. On this adventure, the whole Critter Family needs to get to Lake Wakatookee for their vacation and you get to make the journey with them. On each page, there are little hot spots to touch: blue ones offer a little surprise, red ones reveal alphabet flash cards to collect and green ones are for items you can put into Little Critter’s backpack for later.

There are so many different activities packed into this app, they make it just perfect for travelling. My 3-year-old and I went through all of “The Trip” together. We played every game and collected every flash card along the way and we never lost interest. What makes it so great for travelling is its length. It can take a whole plane ride to get through the entire book and all of its activities and there is something about that that I really love. Little ones these days have their attention pulled in so many directions, it’s nice to see an app that can focus them in on the arch of one longer story while they learn and play fun games along the way.

The Trip Little Critter GamePak can be purchased separately and is a great companion to The Trip Little Critter Reading Adventure, but also can be perfect on its own. It takes some of the games and skills from the book app and expands on them a bit more which does make it a great companion piece.

Let me give you a rundown of the various games contained inside these Apps.

Matching:
-Matching words with pictures.
-Matching numbers with a picture of the numerical amount of something.
-Matching emotion words with pictures of emotions.

Dot to Dot:
-These are a real favorite as we’ve been doing non-digital dot to dots on the road lately.

Puzzles:
-Puzzle mazes are little puzzle tiles your child has to drag into place to create a connected path.
-Picture puzzles

How Many …
-ice cream cones do you see, cows do you see? Etc.

Color by Number:
-This is a favorite as the pictures your child has to color in are just difficult enough to keep them engaged

Sticker Scenes:
-These little stickers are animated and do different things when you put them in different spots.

Early Reading:
-Games where you have to find the pictures that begin with specific letters
-Each word in the story is highlighted as it’s read out loud to your child.

AND THEN THERE ARE BONUS GAMES!!!

Overall, these Apps are chock full of fun to keep everybody in the family entertained while they’re on a trip or stuck inside on a rainy day.

Enjoy!

Both apps are available for iPhone, iPod, and iPad. The Trip Little Critter Reading Adventure is $3.99 on the App Store.  The GamePak is $2.99 on App Store.
